In January, when Pam and I go to market, we set very strict guidelines for our mission – to create a Holiday Magic more exciting than the previous year and hunt for new and exciting merchandise for summer. However, I have to admit - I am part ‘crow’, and therefore attracted to anything shiny – so when I see things that glitter and sparkle, I’m like a moth to a flame. Such was the event that led to our exciting new line of jewelry called STAXX.
We were drawn into the showroom by a poster showing a ring that quite literally stacks together. Especially fascinating for me because as a child I loved to build with Legos – what could be more fun than Legos with glitz? The beautiful clean lines, and of course for me the sparkle, kept our attention, and then listening to Molly Langford tell us how she came up with the idea for her line cinched the deal. She had discovered a vintage ring that appeared to be crafted from multiple pieces, and though it wasn’t, the notion sparked an idea. Once she figured out the concept she asked her husband, who is an architect, to engineer the line. What a great collaboration of form and function! The pieces are finely tooled so they fit together without any of the usual problems when screwing parts together. I think it is such a great way to have jewelry for every outfit with minimum expense, is eco-friendly, and travels without the worry of losing expensive pieces of jewelry. By simply switching a disk, gemstone, or metal ornament the entire look of the piece changes. It could be the jewelry version of ‘the little black dress’ – start with a striking, basic set and then dress it up or down. With the addition of a pavé crystal circle your set is ready for evening wear, a colored mother of pearl can coordinate it to a prom or bridesmaid’s dress, and a circle of turquoise might give the set the perfect western feel for rodeo. There is no end to the combinations and possibilities!
We’ve set up a table where you can sip tea while creating your own signature piece. Take a moment for yourself, or bring a friend to share this creative process. If you don’t feel imaginative we can help – or you can choose one of the lovely designs created by Molly and then pick a few extra charms to go with it. We’re all very excited about STAXX and hope you’ll come by or visit us at www.shophouseofdesign.com to see our latest discovery.
